Only one hour from Brisbane, the beautiful "Valley, of the Lakes" has Superb recreational and leisure facilities. Heritage attractions provide visitors with insights into Shire life of many years ago.

History abounds the many townships within the Brisbane Valley. Historic homesteads are open to the public and provide visitors with a reminder of what life was like for the pastoralists of the Valley. Visit the National Trust Bellevue Homestead near Coominya and the home of the Brisbane Valley Historical Society at Caboonbah Homestead on the Esk-Kilcoy Road.

For the adventurous, take a horse ride overlooking Lake Wivenhoe and spend the night under the stars at a stockman's camp. Join a camel safari at Balara Homestead near Coominya, utilise off-road vehicle parks or feel exhilarated with a tandem skydive 12,500 feet above the township of Toogoolawah.

Fishing is a popular recreational activity, with the Shire boasting three well stocked freshwater lakes (fishing licence required).

Lakes Somerset, Wivenhoe and Atkinson also provide picnic and camping facilities for visitors to enjoy a short break in peaceful surroundings. For the passive visitor, bird watching is a popular pastime or for the skiing enthusiasts Lake Somerset and Lake Atkinson have powerboat access.

To unwind, visit ostrich and deer farms, craft and antique shops and country markets. Take a break from the city and spend a night in one of the many B&B's, farmstays, motels, hotels, caravan/cabin/tourist parks or camping areas. Enjoy a beautiful meal in one of the Valley's many restaurants, cafes, hotels, hot bread kitchens, coffee shops, kiosk's or roadhouses.

Esk Shire hosts many popular events annually including country shows, rowing regattas, fishing competitions, canoe races, rodeos and camp-drafting.

Enjoy a variety of festivals including the Esk Multicultural Festival, the biannual, Coominya Grape and Watermelon Festival and the Tarampa Gift Carnival.

Other popular events include the Indy Car Rally, Lowood Historical Sprints, Motorbike Rallies, Bicycle Touring and many more 'Come and Enjoy Our Lifestyle'.
